Reese Witherspoon started seriously pursuing an acting career after she began her studies at Stanford University. Early successes were with films such as Pleasantville, Election and Legally Blonde. However, it was her portrayal in the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde's big-budget smash that truly set the stage for her acting career. Witherspoon was honored with the Academy Award, in 2005 for her performance in Walk the Line.
